Vers take 10 tons of relics off Fahaheel beach

 

By Heba Al-Sobeih (With photos) KUWAIT, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- The diving team of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) finalized here Sunday the last phase on lifting relices, including plastic materials, tyres, iron scraps and remains of boats, fishing nets and ropes, off the Fahaheel beach at the southern part of Al-Kout complex.
The official in charge of the marine operations in the team Major General. Walid Al-Shatti told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that this project comes within the public activities carried out by the diving team for cleansing the coastal environment and ridding it of such pollutants.
Al-Shatti said that the team used airbags, an inflatable boat, a tractor, diving and recovering materials and a big crane for lifting such relics, besides a group of volunteers who played a big role in rendering such operation a success.
He pointed out that the working zone is estimated at 300 metres off the beach with depth ranging between 150 and 200 metres deep of the sea side.
He concluded by saying that the team finished last week the first phase of cleaning the southern beach of Al-Kout complex in Fahaheel through lifting three tons of sunken boats and five tons of fishing nets.
Finally, Al-Shatti expressed his thanks for the volunteers, hoping that the beach remains clean for fishermen and ordinary people alike. (end).
